Joe Biden meets with Boris Johnson, Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel • Today News Africa
U.S. President Joseph R. Biden Jr. on Saturday met with Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, and Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
President Biden was accompanied by Antony Blinken, Secretary of State and Jake Sullivan, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, while President Macron of France attended the meeting with Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for European and Foreign Affairs and Emmanuel Bonne, Foreign Policy Adviser to the President of France.
Dr. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, attended with Olaf Schulz, Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Finance and Mrs. Christina Beinhoff, Foreign Policy Advisor, while Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland attended with Mr. David Quarrey, Deputy National Security Advisor and Mr. Dan Rosenfield, Chief of Staff.
The leaders met on the margins of the G20 summit in Rome, Italy and discussed global challenges, including the coronavirus pandemic, NATO alliance and climate change.
Mr. Biden has been busy and in many meetings throughout the day and he and First Lady Jill Biden will cap everything with a gala dinner with other Heads of State at the Quirinale Palace in Rome, Italy.
Biden will be seated next to the European Union Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen and President Sergio Mattarella of Italy, while the First Lady will be seated next to the President of France Emmanuel Macron.
The White House said tonight’s dinner menu will be Salmon marinated with herbs and fennel; Risotto with pumpkin and white truffle; Sea Bass with roasted artichoke, potatoes, and other vegetables with a carrot puree and a mayonnaise-based sauce with saffron, with Tangerine Cream Dessert.
