Lizzo does Thriller dance in ‘Squid Game’ costume at Outside Lands


Lizzo was happy to be back in San Francisco for Outside Lands Saturday night for her headlining set.

“I have been touring since 2012. And San Francisco has consistently shown me love for nearly a decade,” Lizzo said, telling fans that she originally performed in a 2 p.m. time slot. It was one of many inspirational moments in which Lizzo reminded fans that their dreams are never out of reach.

Backed by an impeccable all-female band, Lizzo powered through a set of her greatest hits, including sing-along standout “Truth Hurts,” which she called her favorite song from her catalog. She brought out her flute (nicknamed Sasha) for the encore, but the highlight of the night was a viral moment which embodied the playful spirit that has endeared her to so many fans.

Based on her Friday night surprise appearance dressed as Baby Yoda from “The Mandalorian” at a Spotify concert in Los Angeles, Lizzo is a big fan of Halloween. Although she said she still has green paint in some uncomfortable places, there was no Baby Yoda at Outside Lands.

Instead, she dressed as the robotic female doll from Netflix hit “Squid Game,” backed by dancers dressed as the show’s masked henchmen. After an introduction featuring the show’s theme music, the dancers performed the iconic choreographed dance from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video.
