Hawkeye Episode 4 Connects to an MCU Movie’s Post-Credits Scene – IGN
Hawkeye hasn’t been shy with connecting the show to the MCU’s past, but Episode 4 goes a step further, directly connecting it to the post-credits scene from a previous movie by introducing a new character.
This article contains spoilers for Hawkeye Episode 4, ‘Partners, Am I Right?’ If you haven’t seen the episode, turn back now!
In the episode’s climactic fight scene, a masked figure reveals themselves to be Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, the sister of Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow.
The last time we saw Yelena was in the post-credits scene of the Black Widow movie. She was visiting Natasha’s grave, before meeting Julia Louis-Dreyfuss’ Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who asks her if she wants “a shot at the man responsible for your sister’s death,” before handing her a photograph of Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton (which, as those who have watched Avengers: Endgame know, is not really the truth of the matter).
In an episode that features several moments of Barton struggling to come to terms with Natasha’s death, the introduction of Yelena feels as though things are about to become harder for Clint before they get easier.
Despite expecting Yelena to appear at some point, many may have been waiting for a very different cameo to pop up in this episode. Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin has been rumoured to appear, and this episode featured multiple veiled references to someone at the top of a criminal organisation – someone referred to as “the big guy”. However, we’ll be waiting at least another week for that potential reintroduction.
Yelena’s reappearance marks the first major crossover between MCU Phase 4 projects, but we’ll be hoping it also makes the first connections with some of the MCU’s older Netflix shows too. After all, we now know that Charlie Cox will one day return as Daredevil, too.
