Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS lie ahead for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The latest episode of Screen Rant‘s own Pitch Meeting series swings in with its sights set on the highly anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home. Once again helmed by Jon Watts, the third installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe webslinging franchise saw Tom Holland’s Peter Parker facing his biggest challenge yet when Mysterio reveals his secret identity in the Spider-Man: Far From Home mid-credits scene. With his life crumbling around him, Parker turns to Doctor Strange to perform a spell to restore his secret identity, only for it to go awry and result in the doors to the multiverse opening and supervillains from alternate realities making their way there.

Holland again leads the cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, J.K. Simmons, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Thomas Haden Church, Rhys Ifans and Jamie Foxx. Following multiple delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the film finally swung to theaters this month to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike for its performances, screenplay, action sequences and fan service. However, despite many enjoying the latter element, there are some noticing a few problems in its execution.

On the heels of the film’s record-breaking theatrical debut, Screen Rant‘s own Pitch Meeting series is taking aim at Spider-Man: No Way Home. The video hilariously points out the film’s reliance on its audience’s nostalgia and the various plot holes regarding the multiverse spell. Check out the new Pitch Meeting episode below:

Going into its development, Spider-Man: No Way Home had a massive challenge to overcome in finding a way to bridge its various franchises in a way that satisfied audiences, but while most have praised its execution, the latest Pitch Meeting episode properly highlights some of its biggest flaws. Though many viewers may have grown up with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s webslinging movies, there are plenty of audiences who solely know Holland’s Spider-Man and his MCU films, leaving many feeling alienated by the returning stars and villains. It quickly is clear in the film who Garfield and Maguire are to the story, but for those unfamiliar with their films, their inclusion ultimately lacks the same emotional punch as it does for others, along with the returns of their villains.

Even prior to the film’s release, many viewers found themselves questioning the exact nature of Doctor Strange’s memory spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home that brought the other Spider-Men and villains to the MCU and the story does little to justify its plot holes. With the spell being targeted towards those with knowledge of Spider-Man’s true identity of Peter Parker, it’s reasonable that most of the villains and the past Parkers themselves would arrive, but Jamie Foxx’s Electro had no knowledge of his real persona, while the other note of the villains having died fighting Spider-Man left many scratching their head as to Sandman’s inclusion after his survival and redemption arc in Spider-Man 3. Regardless of these issues, audiences have fallen in love with Spider-Man: No Way Home, propelling it to the second-highest box office opening weekend of all-time behind Avengers: Endgame.
