A ‘gracious’ Kelly Clarkson dines at SF Bay Area restaurant

“Save Me” may sound like the title of a song by the Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Kelly Clarkson, who is known for her tremendous voice and relatable songs.

But actually, it’s the name of the drink Clarkson ordered at a restaurant in California’s Wine Country.

Clarkson stopped by Barndiva located just off the plaza in Healdsburg over the weekend and shared the news on Twitter.

Clarkson said she got the tip to eat at the restaurant from Susan Graf Limited, a clothing store in Healdsburg.

“Thank you Susan & Deb at ‘Susan Graf Limited’ for hooking us up with lunch at Barndiva in Healdsburg, CA,” Clarkson wrote. “Loved meeting y’all & if you’re in the area, people, it’s amazing! Try the ‘save me’ cocktail!”

Barndiva co-owner Lukka Feldman said Clarkson was a delightful diner.

“She was very lovely, very unassuming, gracious and complimentary,” Feldman said. “The whole staff was very pleased.”

“We have been bowled over by the response to Kelly Clarkson’s tweet about enjoying her time with us @barndiva,” Barndiva Creative Director Jil Hales wrote in an email to SFGATE. “An incredible talent, turns out Ms. Clarkson is also generous and kind, it’s no wonder she is so beloved.”

Hales said the restaurant’s lead bartender Isabel Hales created the cocktail Clarkson highlighted on social media.

It “is usually made with tequila, though we’ve had guests asked to ‘be saved’ with Mezcal and our house made Jalapeño Tequila as well,” Hales wrote.

Housed in a large and impressive barn, Barndiva is a Michelin-starred restaurant known for its menu, which celebrates all things local. The croquettes made with Laura Chenel goat cheese from Sonoma County are a favorite.

Clarkson broke into the music scene after winning the first season of “American Idol” in 2002 and has released multiple hits, from “A Moment Like This” to “Since U Been Gone,” ever since. She was a coach on “The Voice” and is the host of her own talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
